To mark 4 weeks in Colorado, Dan and I drove to Denver for a docent talk on an Ai Weiwei installation. These bronze animal heads are reinterpretations of zodiac heads that used to form a Chinese “fountain clock” — apparently each animal would spout for one hour, then they would all spout on the hour, as an artistic way of marking time.
We also took the opportunity to visit the McNichols Civic Center Building, which houses a companion exhibit about the zodiac heads. McNichols is a gorgeous building — it used to be a Carnegie Library.
